The Christensen-Pierret Residence represents our most aggressive green building project to date. The home achieved USGBC LEED for Homes Platinum certification with one of the highest point scores in the country (112 points). Among its green features, the house contains a rainwater cachement system, a grey water system, an 8 kW solar array, super-insulated structural insulated panels, and a bevy of recycled and reclaimed materials. The house is equipped with sensors to measure consumption of electricity, natural gas, and water to provide feedback to the residents. Architectural style did not play second fiddle to environmental commitment. The aesthetics of the home were inspired by Palo Alto Architect, Birge Clark. The exterior finishes are stucco with antique hand-formed clay tiles salvaged from the previous home. The interior features hand-scraped wood floors with durable plaster walls and ceilings. The overall house plan is organized around a central court yard with deep roof overhangs. Read more about this project on Palo Alto News Online!
